Peru’s Ministry of Energy and Mining (MEM) has predicted that three wind farms and four solar power plants will be operational in Peru, between 2012 and 2013.
According to Andina news group, the sustainable energy plants would be able to produce about 200 megawatts.
Mardo Mendoza, Director of Electricity Concessions at the General
Directorate of Electricity (DGE), said the MEM has given great
importance to renewable energy and will complete the projects between
2012 and 2013.Mendoza explained that there would be two wind farms in the northern area (Talara and Cupisnique) and another in the south (Marcona).
"In the south (Moquegua, Arequipa and Tacna) there will be solar power plants. The solar projects will represent a total of 80 megawatts and the wind projects together would be more than 100 megawatts," he said.
He also said it was important that have this type of solar and wind technology because it allowed for a glimpse of renewable energy in the country's energy matrix.
